Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi stressed, during a meeting with Deputy Secretary of Russia's Security Council Yevgeny Lukyanov in Tehran, the important and constructive role that Iran and Russia can play in solving the Syrian crisis.
According to Fars news agency, Salehi stressed that “Iran, Russia and other independent countries can play a constructive role in assisting the Syrian government and nation in overcoming the current crisis in the country and continuing the trend towards political and economic reforms.”
As Salehi highlighted “the significance of regular consultations between Iranian and Russian officials,” Lukyanv criticized the "hasty and dual attitude of western states towards regional developments”, and called for further consultations between the two countries over regional and international issues.
Moreover, the Russian official indicated that “the western policies have triggered an economic crisis in different countries,” and slammed the “West for adopting double-standard policies on regional and international issues and supporting terrorist groups in Syria.”
In parallel, Lukyanov met with Deputy Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Baqeri, who stated that Tehran-Moscow strategic partnership will guarantee regional stability.
Iranian news agency IRNA quoted Baqeri as saying that “such a partnership is a win-win game for the two sides as well as the entire region.”
“This will guarantee the regional security and stability,” he added.
