Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Miqati received Tuesday Iranian President’s Press Advisor Ali Akbar Javanfekr and Iranian Ambassador to Lebanon Gadanfar Rokon Abadi, and discussed with them the fields of cooperation between Lebanon and Iran, especially amid the political developments in the region.
Javanfekr said after the meeting that “we discussed with Miqati the role that Iran will play in the field of enhancing Lebanon’s ability in generating electric power… The PM pointed out that the protocol of understanding between the two countries was approved in the latest cabinet meeting, which allows making strong efforts to improve the electric power in Lebanon.”
Moreover, the Iranian official clarified that “as government and people in Iran, we sadly look at the suffering of the dear Lebanese people in the field of electricity… This urges us to speed our efforts to present constructive projects that could help return the electricity to its normal state.”
On the Syrian level, Javanfekr stated that “we believe that there should be political reforms in the regime structure in Syria, and this is what Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad assured and implemented in the reforms that he carried out in the past months.”
“In contrast, we consider that an appropriate and stable atmosphere should be ensured in order to implement these reforms,” he added, criticizing “some western countries’ role in aggravating the internal Syrian situation.”
