Israeli General Says Truce Fragile as Warplane Attacks Gaza

An Israeli warplane carried out two raids late Wednesday night, one near Gaza City and another near the southern town of Khan Yunis, according to Palestinian security officials, AFP reported.

No causalities have been reported yet from the attack.

Late Thursday morning, Palestinian resistance fighters fired a rocket at the occupied southern city of Be’er Sabeh. It was the second rocket to be fired on Thursday; neither caused any damage or injuries.

At least 26 Palestinians have been martyred and dozens others injured in Israeli attacks on the coastal sliver since March 9 which ended with an Egyptian-brokered truce.

Israeli Military Southern Command chief Maj.-Gen. Tal Russo admitted Wednesday that the army does not know howIsraeli General Tal Russo long the ceasefire with resistance fighters in Gaza would last.

"We are preparing for the possibility that the calm will be violated," he said during a visit to a high school. Russo said there were "disobedient elements" in Gaza that have not accepted the agreed-upon.

The general said that in the latest round of attacks the occupation army "did not use all the means at its disposal," adding "those who think there is a switch that turns the rocket fire from Gaza on and off are mistaken. There is no magic solution.

"There may be a situation whereby we will be forced to launch a broader operation. There is no single entity that rules Gaza and can give the order to halt the rocket fire. There are defiant elements there. I'm not saying the calm surprises me, but anything can happen," Russo said.
