The credentials of Fahd bin Abdul Mohsen al-Zaid were signed by President Jalal Talabani after presented on Tuesday evening.
"Iraq is keen to build the best relations with the kingdom, which will benefit and be in the best interests of the two countries and the two peoples," Talabani said, according to a statement released by the president's office on Wednesday.
Zaid told Talabani that Saudi Arabia wants to "improve economic and political relations with Iraq," according to the statemen.
Relations between Saudi Arabia and Iraq have improved, with the two countries recently agreeing to tighter security cooperation and a prisoner exchange.
