Lebanon approved a decision Wednesday on renting power generating vessels and constucting electiricity plants.

Lebanese Minister of Information Walid Al-Daouk stated that the cabinet has agreed to rent ships for ensuring electricity for a maximum of three years.

In a brief after a cabinet session Wednesday headed by President Michel Suleiman and attended by PM Najib Miqati, Al-Daouk pointed out that “the cabinet agreed to rush in constructing power plants that produce 1,500-megawatt capacity, and to accomplish all the required studies and steps to include the private sector in that.”

For his part, President Michel Suleiman referred at the beginning of the session to last week’s public protests, assuring that “our duty is to implement the demands of the unions”, and stressing “the importance of dialogue among ministries”.

Suleiman indicated that he will be heading Thursday to Baghdad to participate in the Arab Summit, adding that he “will present Lebanon’s stance to the Arab League”.
