Iranian news agency IRNA reported Tuesday that Syria could be among “options to host negotiations between Group 5+1 with Iran”.

Quoting an “informed Iranian source in Syria”, IRNA said that “considering the acceptable political and security situation in the country and its position in international and regional equations, Syria is ready to host this round of negotiations.”

On another hand, an Iraqi statement revealed Tuesday that Iran wants the nuclear talks to take place in Baghdad.

According to AFP, the Iraqi statement which was a welcoming response to an Iranian proposal pointed out that “an Iranian delegation expressed the desire that Iraq hosts the international meeting on the Iranian nuclear file of the five permanent members of the (UN) Security Council plus Germany in Baghdad.”

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton had announced last weekend that the talks were due to take place April 13 and 14 in Istanbul. However, EU diplomats cautioned that the venue was still under discussion, and Russia indicated that "the date and the place of the meeting have not been definitively set.”

The last round of talks between Iran and the “P5+1 group” was held in Istanbul in January 2011.
