Syrian President Bashar Assad received delegations of Levant Scholars’ Union and Lebanese Baath Arab Socialist Party.
Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad received Wednesday a Levant Scholars’ Union delegation, which was formed during the Levant Scholars’ conference for supporting Al-Quds Tuesday, Syrian News Agency SANA reported.
Al-Assad stressed, at the meeting, the importance of holding the conference in support of Al-Quds, considering it a step in “confronting the dangerous Israeli practices that aim at Judaizing Al-Quds and demolishing Al-Aqsa mosque.”
He further emphasized the importance of forming a wide public campaign all around the Arab world for supporting Al-Quds and the Palestinian cause, adding that “this union must be significant in confronting and dealing with the challenges that the Arabs and Muslims are facing, and in promoting the reality of Islam in light of the distorting campaign that the Muslims are facing."
From here, the Syrian president tackled “extremism”, indicating that “there is nothing called extremism in Islam, as Islam is an extreme in good and love, and in everything related to organizing, advancing, and developing societies."
For his part, Chairman of the Levant Scholars’ Union Dr. Mohammad Saeed Ramadan Al-Boutti expressed his appreciation to Syria for hosting the conference, and for its constant role in embracing the Palestinian cause.
In another context, the Syrian president received a delegation from the Baath Arab Socialist Party in Lebanon headed by its chief Fayez Shokr, and discussed with it the latest regional developments, specifically in Syria and Lebanon.
In a statement he issued Wednesday, Shokr said that Al-Assad expressed his concern about Lebanon’s security and stability, pointing out that the Syrian president was satisfied with the political and security achievements in Syria.
He also clarified that “Assad is concerned with the case of Lebanese cameraman Ali Shaaban” who was martyred on the Lebanese-Syrian borders on Tuesday.
In parallel, the Syrian agency reported Thursday that Syrian Information Minister Adnan Mahmoud consoled Shaaban’s family in a letter he sent to them with a delegation of SANA’s staff in Lebanon.
