Oman’s Sultan sacks two ministers days after protests erupted demanding end to corruption
Oman's Sultan Qaboos has replaced two ministers, days after protests erupted demanding an end to corruption and reforms in the normally placid Gulf state.
Official media reported on Saturday that the sultan has appointed Khaled bin Hilal bin Saud al-Bousaidi as a minister of the royal court, replacing Ali bin Humud al-Bousaidi.
He also appointed Sultan bin Mohammed al-Numani as minister in the sultan's office, replacing Ali bin Majid al-Maamari, the state ONA news agency said added.
Trying to calm tensions, the sultan on Sunday promised 50,000 jobs, unemployment benefits of $390 a month and to study widening the power of a quasi-parliamentary advisory council.
