Syria Dubs Turkish Official Stance Provocative

The Syrian Foreign Ministry Dubbed Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and Foreign Minister, Ahmet Davutoglu’s statements provocative.

The Syrian Foreign Ministry Dubbed Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and Foreign Minister, Ahmet Davutoglu’s statements provocative and said they “aimed at complicating the situation in Syria, systematically straining the bilateral relations, and contradict UN envoy Kofi Annan’s plan,” Syrian News Agency, SANA reported.

A statement issued Saturday by the Syrian Foreign Ministry considered that “Syria did not threaten at any time the Turkish borders because it considers them friendly and neighboring,” expressing “Syria's concern over Erdogan's threats to bring the NATO to protect his borders with Syria.”

The ministry Spokesman Jihad Maqdissi further stressed in the statement the importance of committing to Annan’s plan in order to protect and preserve a stable situation on the borders, and accused Erdogan of “adopting the policy of aggravation” and of “hosting armed groups”.

The statement called on Erdogan to avoid “exploiting the Syrians affected by the armed acts and are on the Turkish territories,” and rather “exert good efforts to help in their return.”

“We don't want anyone to feign crying over the destiny of any Syrian because they are always welcome in their country,” it added, indicating that the reconstruction process in the damaged areas is underway.

According to SANA, the statement concluded by saying that "Syria will stay committed to the best relations with the friendly Turkish people, and its doors will always be open for the Turkish people who believe in good neighborly relations and in the common history of the two peoples.”
