Detainees in the Israeli occupation prisons have entered on Thursday the 18th day of a hunger strike which they began in solidarity with political detainees Bilal Thiab and Thaer Halahla who on their part have been on a hunger strike for 68 days now.
Palestine Today news agency reported that the Zionist Supreme Court has postponed on Thursday a response to the two prisoners’ appeals, despite their deteriorating health state which exposes their life to danger.
Thiab and Halahla’s lawyer Jawad Boulos said in response to the court’s decision that “Bilal Thiab, under arrest for nine months, and Thaer Halahla, under arrest for 22 months, cannot stay without trial,” adding that “keeping them under political detention is like issuing a death sentence against them, because they are determined to go on with their hunger strike until their release.”
Moreover, the news agency reported that the two detainees were brought to the court in ambulance cars, and Thiab passed out half an hour after the trial began.
For his part, Knesset Member Ahmad Taibi pointed out that Thiab and Halahla were brought to the court without a doctor’s company, and that Thiab was denied aid when he passed out.
He indicated that Thiab was left on the ground for 45 minutes, until the judge permitted Taibi, also a doctor, to check on him.
In parallel, Halahla who was barely capable of speaking, talked about the oppression and torture he had faced since his arrest, rejecting his renewed political detention.
“I am a person who loves life. How could someone who loves life accept to be oppressively arrested for no reason… this why I am on a hunger strike and I will protest my arrest,” Thiab was quoted as saying.
