Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast expressed hope that the new French president Francois Hollande would revise the wrong policies of his country in the past. Ramin Mehmanparast

In an exclusive interview with IRNA on Monday, he said the failure of Nicolas Sarkozy in the Sunday presidential elections was the result of his wrong policies.

He also said the history of Tehran-Paris relations has provided an apt situation for growing cooperation, hoping that a new era would be opened up in the two countries bilateral relations through election of the new French president.

He believed the defeat of Sarkozy was due to his animosity with regional states, including Iran and his wrong strategies regarding such issues as Afghanistan and Middle East developments.

Mehmanparast also stressed that Sarkozy’s defeat indicates failure of wrong policies adopted in France during his tenure which resulted in undermining France’s authority due to following US policies on various international issues.
