At least two people were killed and many more were injured on Tuesday as former rebels attacked the headquarters of the interim government in Tripoli.
"Between two to four guards were killed and many others are wounded”, an interior ministry official said.
"Many men encircled the building and opened fire against it with weapons including anti-aircraft cannons”, AFP quoted the official as saying.
Officials said that militants angry over unpaid stipends opened fire on the headquarters of the interim government after surrounding the building.
Witnesses also said that several trucks mounted with anti-aircraft guns surrounded the building in central Tripoli, blocking traffic.
Government spokesman Nasser al-Manaa said Defense Minister Osama Juili was negotiating with the fighters, who "came in protest over (unpaid) stipends."
