The lettes said that that "the escalating crimes prove that Syria is facing a terrorist attack led by groups which received arms and financial support by sides that announced support to these terrorist crimes and encouraged committing them”.
“Every reform step taken by the government, including a new constitution for the country and parliamentary elections that reflect political pluralism, the acts of terrorist killing and destruction have increasingly escalated”, the letter stated, according to state news agency, SANA.
"The armed terrorist groups did not only violate the plan of the UN Special Envoy and the initial understanding, but also attacked the convoy of Head of the UN observer mission”, the letter said referring to Wednesday’s attack that targeted Major General Robert Mood’s convoy in Daraa.
"The government of the Syrian Arab Republic hopes that the UN Security Council will shoulder its responsibilities in combating terrorism and facing countries that encourage terrorism", the Ministry added.
FOREIGN TERRORISTS FIGHTING IN SYRIA
For his part, al-Jaafari stressed on Thursday that sending and smuggling weapons into Syria contradict any political solution to the crisis and constitute an effort to assassinate the mission of the UN envoy to Syria Kofi Annan.
In a speech during the meeting of UN Security Council sub-committees, al-Jaafari said that he had a list of 26 terrorists some of them are affiliated to al-Qaeda, adding that he sent this list to the UN Secretary-General and heads of the UN Counter-Terrorism Subsidiary Bodies.
Al-Jaafari also said that a list of 12 foreign terrorists who were killed in Syria would be sent to the Security Council and the UN Secretary-General, pointing out that the list includes the names of French, British and Belgian terrorists, SANA reported.
