Syrian troops thwarted a suicide attack in the northern city of Aleppo, and killed the bomber.

"Syrian authorities have foiled an attempted suicide attack in Al-Shaar area of Aleppo and killed the would-be attacker", Syrian state TV said on Friday.

For its port, SANA news agency said: “a suicide bomber was killed when the authorities intercepted a stolen booby-trapped minibus that he attempted to blow up in the densely-populated al-Shaar neighborhood in Aleppo”.

The agency quoted a source in the governorate as saying that the “authorities followed the terrorist after he hit two policemen and managed to kill him while driving before he could detonate the suicide belt and the minibus”.

The TV said that the attacker’s car was laden with 1,200kg of explosives, adding that soldiers stopped the car when they noticed what looked like fake government license plates.
“The driver was shot and killed”, state TV said.
