An Israeli tanks shelled Gaza strip on Thursday, injuring seven people.

Gaza medical spokesman Adham Abu Salmiya sadi that two people were seriously wounded and five moderately injured when Israeli forces opened fire on Beit Lahiya, north Gaza, and east of Gaza City, according to Ma’an news agency.

Most of the victims were farmers, Abu Salmiya said.

For its part, an Israeli army spokesman said forces opened fire toward "several suspects approaching the security fence."

"The soldiers fired toward the terrorists (and) the suspects distanced themselves from the fence," he said according to AFP.
