Syrian President Bashar al-Assad stressed on Thursday that Syria has succeeded to overcome the pressures and challenges which it has been facing over years and is able to get out of this crisis thanks to its people's steadfastness and adherence to its unity and independence.
Assad's statement came during a meeting with the Iranian President's Special Envoy, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Reza Taqipour, according to SANA news agency.
Minister Taqipour conveyed to President al-Assad a letter from President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad of Iran including an invitation to attend the conference of the Non-Aligned Movement countries due to be held in Tehran next September.
Minister Taqipour stressed that what Syria is undergoing comes in the framework of a broader scheme targeting the entire region, SANA said.
He asserted Iran's firm stance in support of the Syrian people in the face of the extraordinary circumstances they are confronted with.
The meeting was attended by Iranian Ambassador in Damascus and the accompanying Iranian delegation.
