Residents in Lebanon’s second largest city were on strike on Monday to protest the deadly clashes which took place in the last two days, as the army continued the deployment in different area of Tripoli.

Cautious calm prevailed in Tripoli on Monday, with the National News Agency said that banks, the commerce and industry chamber in the North, and the municipality of Tripoli abided by the request of civil society organizations to close in mourning of the victims.

The streets of Tripoli were vacant as most shops, centers and schools were closed following the two-day clashes.
The fighting with machineguns and Rocket Propelled Grenades between Bab al-Tabbaneh and the Jabal Mohsen has left 14 people dead and more than 60 wounded since Saturday.

The army issued a statement in which it said that its forces had deployed in the areas which witnessed clashes since Saturday. The statement added that the internal security forces would also deloy in the area.

The NNA also reported that following late night talks by officials in the city, the army moved on Sunday into Syria Street which divides Jabal Mohsen from t Bab al-Tabbaneh.
