A new round of the national dialogue is being held today at the Baabda Presidential Palace to discuss the national defense strategy
A new session of the national dialogue is being held today at the Baabda Presidential Palace to discuss the national defense strategy.
Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri told An-Nahar newspaper in remarks published on Monday that it was important for national dialogue sessions to succeed urging all political parties to participate in the dialogue sessions and “not waste this opportunity.”
“I support parties’ right to tackle any issue they want, but it is important that dialogue does not fail,” Berri said.
Prime Minister Najib Miqati told As-Safir newspaper that “everyone wants” the success of the national dialogue which convened on June 11 after 18 months of suspension.
Loyalty to the Resistance bloc leader MP Mohammad Raad also told As-Safir daily that Al-Mustaqbal (Future) Movement has not yet presented its suggestions on national defense strategy. “Hezbollah presented its suggestions on the matter during previous sessions. Some March 14 parties did so as well but Al-Mustaqbal Movement has not yet suggested anything. All we have heard from them were speeches.”
Raad wondered whether the movement would present its opinion regarding the national-defense strategy during Monday’s session, indicating that Hezbollah was open for any objective discussions that will protect the country against Israeli attacks and strengthen its sovereignty.
