Lebanese Interior Minister Marwan CharbelLebanese Interior Minister Marwan Charbel revealed that the security agencies will kick off on Wednesday a 1 month, 24 hours a day security plan, local Naharnet website posted.

He told reporters after chairing a meeting of the Central Security Council on Monday that the Internal Security Forces will set up check points starting from Beirut and reaching other areas across Lebanon.

“The ministry will start during the upcoming days a security month in cooperation with all the competent ministries where the Internal Security Forces will set checkpoints and conduct patrols,” Charbel told An Nahar newspaper on Monday.

He pointed out “the security month will include all the heated areas from Beirut and its southern suburbs.”

“There is no area that is a taboo for us security wise, the upcoming days will prove this,” Charbel added.

Asked about the purpose behind this security plan, the minister said: “We are at the doorsteps of the month of Ramadan, where many Lebanese expats and Arab tourists would visit Lebanon to spend the month in the country… We have to soothe them and provide all citizens with stability.”

However, Charbel stated that he didn’t yet tackle the matter with the political power in the country, saying “all political leaders hope that stability and security prevail” in Lebanon.
