Lebanese government is to be held Wednesday afternoon at Baabda Serial, and is expected to address the hot issues of security and electricity.
The cabinet will tackle hiring power ships and modifying the chain of ranks and salaries for public sector employees, local Al-Akhbar daily reported.
"According to ministerial sources, the Ministerial Committee, consisting of the Prime Minister and ministers of finance, energy and the environment will submit its report to the cabinet on the ships," the daily added.
The sources stressed that “hiring the ships is the quickest solution currently, in order to provide the country with electricity.”
As for ranks and salaries, the sources expected a committee to be formed to study the file, stressing that most of the ministers reject the proposal of the Finance Minister Mohammad Safadi to increase the value added tax (VAT).
For his part, Minister of Economy and Trade Nicolas Nahhas said Wednesday that "the Council of Ministers will approve today the file of the ships, since the contract with the Turkish company is reasonable and acceptable."
"In respect of the series level, it needs more in-depth research," he added during an interview with local radio this morning.
Regarding the security month in Lebanon which starts Wednesday, Minister of Interior Marwan Charbel said that security forces will space no violation over the Lebanese territories.
“We will not only establish checkpoints, but places of those wanted by law will be raided,” he added Wednesday.
Security month was declared Monday by Minister Charbel on the eve of touristic season in Lebanon.
