Syrian Troops on Sunday regained control of a key Damascus suburb, Douma, as they flushed out armed groups from the region.
The state news agency, SANA, said troops “continued to pursue terrorist groups in Douma, raiding their hideouts and destroying their communications and other equipment.”
Clashes resulted in the death of dozens of terrorists and the wounding and arrest of many others, the statement said.
Syrian daily, al-Watan, said that the authorities are likely to announce Douma a secure region.
The paper quoted residents in Douma as saying the troops and the security services were capable to destroy the hideouts of the militants.
Meanwhile, 100 citizens who were “involved in the recent events in the country and whose hands are clean of Syrian blood turned themselves in and surrendered their weapons in to the authorities in Hama,” SANA reported.
The agency added that the citizens were released “after pledging not to take up arms again or take part in vandalism or any act that affects Syria's security and stability in the future.”
