One person dies, nine others sustain serious wounds following blast in Mekorot drilling facility on the Occupied Palestine - Jordan borders.
One person killed and nine others injured on Monday after a blast occurred during maintenance work on the Zionist Mekorot drilling facility in the central Arava region at the border between Occupied Palestine and Jordan, the Zionist Yadiot Ahronot news website reported.
The nine include one in critical condition; three in serious condition and five others lightly injured.
According to Ynet, the circumstances behind the event are still unclear. It appears that workers doing routine work used pipes that were carrying hydrochloric acid and were affected by the substance after a blast occurred.
Noam Carmeli, the Zionist Central Arava Regional Council's security officer reported that at least three ambulances were treating the wounded.
Last year, a major gas leak occurred on the Eilat-Ashkelon pipeline following renovation work near the Zin nature reserve.
