Lebanese President Michel Sleiman condemned Syrian forces’ detention of two Lebanese General Security members and said the act violated international laws, as well as the principle of coordination between the two countries along their borders, the National News Agency reported on Monday.
“We condemn the Syrian military unit’s crossing of the Lebanese border and their (brief) detention of two Lebanese General Security members,” he said.
“Their act violates international laws and transgresses the principle of coordination between the two countries.”
The president also voiced hope that an investigation would be conducted to prevent such incidents from reoccurring and “maintain the sovereignty and independence of both countries.”
The NNA also reported that Sleiman met with Interior Minister Marwan Charbel to discuss the security situation.
