Russia said that the West was trying to twist the results of the agreement which was reached by international powers on Syrian crisis.
In a press conference, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov regretted that some representatives of the Syrian opposition started to announce that Geneva resolutions are unacceptable for them, adding that at the same time some participants in the Geneva meeting began distorting the results with their statements.
"These (Geneva) agreements are not there to be interpreted. They mean exactly what is said in the communique and we need to follow the agreements that were made," AFP news agency quoted him as saying.
Lavrov described the Geneva meeting as an important step to unite efforts aimed at reaching a peaceful settlement for the crisis in Syria and setting aside attempts to solve the issue by military means, adding that Geneva created new opportunities to achieve this end and that these opportunities must be seized.
He stressed the need for an immediate start of dialogue between the Syrian government and the opposition groups.
Regarding the meeting of the so-called "friends of Syria" in Paris, Lavrov said that Russia won't participate in it because the need to do so has become redundant after the Geneva meeting.
He also called for unifying the Syrian opposition.
"Moscow calls for unifying the Syrian opposition in preparation for dialogue with the Syrian authorities as is stipulated in (UN envoy, Kofi) Annan's plan which was approved by the Security Council,” he told the conference in Moscow which was also attended by Vietnam's Foreign Minister.
