Protesters o Tuesday staged a demonstration that headed from Beirut’s Mathaf district towards the nearby Military Court building to demand the release of three officers held in connection with the case of Sheikh Ahmed Abdul Wahed and his companion.

Demonstrators carried army flags and banners expressing solidarity with the military institution.
Meanwhile, the army command called on people to end all forms of support for the military institution, saying there were contrived intentions against the army in bid to increase tensions and chaos in the country.

“Some lawmakers and politicians have contrived intentions against the military institution, with some are determined to target it in a bid to increase tensions and chaos in the country,” the command said in a statement.

The army also stressed that “it reserves the right to file a complaint before specialized judicial authorities against any side that harms the army and its soldiers.”
It emphasized that it will continue on performing its duties and “rising above insults to ensure the safety of the nation and its people.”

The relatives of the officers detained in the case of Sheikh Ahmed Abdul Wahed and a number of army supporters on Monday blocked the Sarba-Jounieh road near an army barracks, declaring that they will not leave before the release of the generals.
