Egyptian President Mohamad Mursi met on Thursday Palestinian Hamas chief Khaled Meshaal, voicing support for the Palestinians.

"Mursi affirmed Egypt's support for Palestinians in Gaza, which confirms a new era in relations between Egypt and the Palestinian cause," said Meshaal after the meeting, in comments published by the official Egyptian news agency MENA.

The Zionist entity has partly blockaded Gaza since 2007. For its part Egypt also has contributed to this blockade as it closed Rafah crossing.

Earlier on Wednesday Mursi hosted the Head of the Palestinian Authority Mahmoud Abbas .
Meshaal said Mursi would soon schedule a meeting with him and Abbas to push the unity deal between Hamas and Fatah.
