“The powerful presence of Iranian Navy in the high seas has proven the Islamic Republic’s [naval] might,” Sayyari said.
We have proved through continued presence of our vessels in free waters that we are capable of showing the country’s might in the international arenas, he added.

“Taking advantage of [available] potentialities in the Sea of Oman and the Indian Ocean is among the most important ways of promoting sustainable development of the country,” the commander noted.

In the meantime, IRNA news agency reported that Iran has joined world’s large ship-makers club Monday evening by launching a 21,000-ton Aframax oil tanker in this southern port.

The 250-meter-long tanker was the first out of four tankers ordered by Venezuela’s Oil Company and was manufactured at Bushehr’s Sadra shipyard within 24 months.

The vessel is the first Aframax class ship made by the Iranian experts with a 21 meter hight and 44 meter width as well as a capacity of 113,000 tons and 16 knots speed, the agency said.

Being the first ship of such size made in the Middle East region, the vessel can carry 750,000 barrels of oil.
