Few hours after Syrian opposition party announced it would form a “transitional government” in exile, the Syrian National Council said the decision was hasty, adding it would weaken the opposition.
"The formation of a government in exile was a hasty decision, and we wish it had not happened," SNC chief Abdel Basset Sayda told AFP.
"It actually weakens the opposition," he added.
"We need to take our time to form a transitional government," Sayda said.
Such a government, he added, "should reflect the situation on the ground and the diversity" of Syria's population.
Opposition figure Haytham al-Maleh told reporters earlier that he had been tasked with forming a government in exile based in Cairo.
"We don't want to find ourselves in a political or administrative vacuum" should President Bashar al-Assad fall, Maleh said. "This phase calls for cooperation from all sides."
