The Lebanese cabinet adopted on Tuesday an parliamentary electoral law based on proportionality, and dividing the country into 13 electoral districts.
The cabinet also approved a representation quota for women in which only one woman might run for elections in each electoral district, acting information minister said following the session in Baabda presidential palace.
The draft electoral law was subject to a vote at cabinet, enjoying the support of all ministers except those of the National Struggle Front (NSF).
Abou Faour, also of the National Struggle Front, said that the objections did not delve into the details of the division of the electoral districts.
NSF bloc leader MP Walid Jumblatt, has repeatedly spoken out against a law based on proportional representation and called for adopting the 1960 electoral law, which is based on simple majority representation.
He had held talks earlier on Monday with President Michel Sleiman, but he did not make a statement after the meeting.
