Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki received Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, Saeed Jalili, stressing the need for political solution in Syria.
Maliki stressed “Iraq's support to any effort that helps achieve goals of the Syrian people peacefully through dialogue and understanding, avoids more tragedies in Syria and preserves security and stability in the region,” according to statement posted by the PM office after a meeting held here with Jalili.
The meeting dealt with Iranian-Iraqi relations and the regional developments, particularly the crisis in Syria, the statement added.
Jalili earlier met Iraqi Speaker Parliament Speaker Osama al-Nujaifi and foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari.
