"We're happy to see countries like China and Russia, who are not colonizers or deal with people like colonizers," said Shaaban, special advisor to President Bashar al-Assad, in an interview.

"This is a very different stance from the West," she told the state-run China Daily newspaper ahead of a meeting with China's Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi later Thursday.

Shaaban, who arrived in Beijing on Tuesday, slammed Western nations for supplying arms and money to people who she said are inciting the civil war in Syria and imposing sanctions that hurt the health sector and civilians.

She also described the groups as kidnappers and stooges of foreign powers that refused to engage in dialogue with the government.

Shaaban denied that Syria was blocking international aid groups from entering the country, saying instead they had not offered any supplies despite requests from the government.

China's Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi urged the visiting Syrian envoy to implement a ceasefire and accept international mediation to end the violence.

"China urges the Syrian government and all concerned parties... to quickly implement a ceasefire to end the violence and start political dialogue," Yang told Shaaban, according to a government statement.

Yang added that China "hopes the Syrian government and the opposition can cooperate with international mediation efforts", according to the statement by China's foreign ministry posted on its website.

China has joined Russia to repeatedly use their vetoes to scuttle UN Security Council resolutions against the regime of President Assad.
