Russian Foreign Minister told the new UN envoy to Syria al-Akhdar al-Ibrahimi that the solution to the Syrian crisis was through a political dialogue.

Russian Foreign Minister told the new UN envoy to Syria al-Akhdar al-Ibrahimi that the solution to the Syrian crisis was through a political dialogue.

During a phone call with Ibrahimi, Lavrov stressed that the dialogue should be basedon the former envoy, Kofi Annan’s, six-point plan and the statement of the work plan on Syria which held a ministerial meeting in Geneva, according to a statement released by Russian foreign ministry.

The statement said that Lavrov expressed Russia's support to a political dialogue between all parties in Syria to solve the crisis, and Russia's backing to appointing Brahimi as the UN envoy, voicing readiness for close cooperation with him for solving the Syrian crisis.

The Russian Foreign Ministry added that Ibrahimi stressed willingness to work with all sides in Syria and all countries that can influence the situation to put it on the course of political dialogue.
