Cautious calm prevailed in Tripoli on Sunday after the city witnessed heavy clashes between rival neighborhoods of Jabal Mohsen and Bab al-Tabbaneh.Al-Manar correspondent reported that the Lebanese army was deploying in the city, with its forces were staging patrols across the tense streets.
However he added that sporadic sniper fires were disrupting the calm of the area, noting that the army forces were responding to the sources of the fire.
The correspondent also reported that phone messages were spreading rumors within the residents of the area.
Since Monday more than 14 people were killed as the number of the wounded exceeded the hundred.
For its part, Lebanese daily, an-Nahar, quoted prominent security sources as saying that the army and Internal Security Forces have deployed heavily in the city and carried out raids against the areas where gunmen are located.
The sources added that the army has confiscated weapons and is pursuing the militants.
Earlier on Saturday, a meeting was held on Saturday at MP Mohammed Kabbara’s residence in order to tackle the unrest.
Following the meeting Kabbara said that the contacts were ongoing with all concerned sides to that end, al-Hayat daily reported, adding that the gatherers voiced their support for the security forces and army to restore calm in Tripoli.
