Islamic Movement Resistance, Hamas’ Prime Minister, Ismail Haniyeh will not attend the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) countries summit in Tehran this week.
"After intense consultations in the last few hours, a decision was taken not to attend the NAM summit that will take place in Tehran at the end of this month,” said a website closely affiliated with Hamas movement on Sunday.
The Palestine Information Centre (PIC) news website announced the decision, quoting Hamas sources.
Earlier on Sunday, spokesman of the summit said that the head of the Palestinian Authority Mahmoud Abbas is the only Palestinian official invited to the Summit.
“Only Mahmoud Abbas has been invited to attend the Tehran summit from Palestine,” Ramin Mehmanparast told official news agency IRNA, adding that no formal invitation has been sent for anyone else.
“If Iran wants to invite a special quest other than heads of the countries to NAM summit, the invitation must be sent via the NAM office in New York,” Mehmanparast made the remarks on the sidelines of the NAM experts meeting in Tehran.
The NAM experts’ meeting was officially started in Tehran Sunday morning with a speech by Foreign Minister Ali-Akbar Salehi.
The two-day meeting will be followed with the meeting of NAM foreign ministers and the Summit is to be held on August 30-31.
