Iranian media said that Ban was to see Supreme Leader Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, top nuclear negotiator Saeed Jalili and other officials later Wednesday.
On Thursday and Friday, he was to attend the NAM summit as an observer, at Ahmadinejad's invitation, according to state media.
For his part, Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi announced that if wishes he can visit Iran’s nuclear facilities, adding that Ahmadinejad has given the permission for such a visit.
“Mr. Ban Ki-moon also can visit nuclear facilities if he wishes. The president has given the permission for his visit,” Salehi told reporters on the sidelines of the NAM foreign ministerial meeting.
Salehi said the guests at the NAM summit have the choice to visit the cities of Isfahan, Tabriz, Shiraz or industrial centers like Assalouyeh or auto manufacturing companies, and scientific or research centers like the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran.
The summit is to gather leaders and senior officials from 120 states which account for nearly two-thirds of the UN member countries.
