Lebanese Army Chief Jean Qahwaji said the army will confront any attempt to transform the Lebanese-Syrian borders to an “incitement pathway” from and into Lebanon.
Speaking at a ceremony for honoring retired officers, Qahwaji warned the army against permitting the existence of security spots and regions that are not under the authority of the state.
“The army is committed to implement its military plan internally and on the land borders with Syria, and it will make all efforts to prevent the border from being transformed into an incitement pathway from and into Lebanon,” the Lebanese army chief added.
As he stressed that the army will not permit the establishment of security spots and regions that could make Lebanon part of a regional conflict, he clarified that “the army is working on saving the nation, whether by its permanent readiness on the southern Lebanese borders to confront any Israeli violation… or by monitoring security internally and on the Lebanese-Syrian borders.”
Qahwaji also stated that the army is working on “confronting spy and terror networks,” and pointed out that “the army’s concern with the freedom atmosphere in Lebanon does not mean accepting that some parts take advantage of this great value and hide behind it in attempt to spread destructive thoughts…”
“The army will now allow any political part to blackmail it on any topic,” he added.
