Speaking on the sidelines of the 16th Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) summit in Tehran, Maliki said that the military interference could trigger a civil war in Syria as well as in other nearby countries.
The Iraqi PM also the flow of weapons to the insurgents fighting the government of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad for causing more bloodshed in the country.
He further called for a peaceful resolution to the prolonged unrest in Syria and highlighted the significance of organizing talks between the two sides of the country’s ongoing conflict.
In a speech to the NAM summit, Maliki was to deliver a speech in which he would offer an initiative for the Syrian resolution that suggests a transitional government including President Assad.
