Iran on Friday closed the two-day Non-Aligned Movement Summit after having discussed major international files on top of which was the Palestinian cause, the Syrian crisis, and the countries’ right to make use of peaceful nuclear energy.
Representatives from the 120 members of NAM adopted a document that condemned unilateral sanctions, backed the right of Iran and other states to peaceful nuclear energy, and supported the creation of a Palestinian state.
The document also reportedly advocated nuclear disarmament, human rights free from political agendas and opposition to racism and "Islamophobia".
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad chaired the closing ceremony, reflecting his country's presidency of the NAM for the next three years, after which it will pass to Venezuela.
Participants agreed that the summit was a success, praising Iran’s Supreme Leader Sayyed Ali Khamenei’s inauguration statement, and emphasizing the importance of reforming the United Nations and the Security Council structure.
Moreover, the participants demanded a more effective role for the Non-Aligned Movement, which would put an end to the West’s domination and control through the pressure it practices on other states.
