Free Patriotic Movement General Michel Aoun said he had escaped a murder attempt after his motorcade came under fire attack in the southern city of Sidon.

Addressing an FPM dinner in the town of Batroun after midnight Saturday, Aoun said it was the fourth assassination bid, noting he had previously escaped three murder attempts.
“This is the fourth and the attempt failed today but we haven't found the suspects yet,” he said.

“Why do they want to assassinate me?” Aoun wondered adding: “I haven't killed anyone indiscriminately.”
The FPM leader said that the failure to kill him politically and morally” was the reason behind the attack.

The convoy was attacked near Bahaaeddine Hariri mosque in Sidon during his return from a rally in Jezzine, his press office said.

Meanwhile, Interior Minister Marwan Charel confirmed the attack, saying the security body would investigate the incident.
Commenting about the incident Charbel said: “Absolutely the motorcade is divided into several motorcades. And there was a delusive convoy that went ahead of the other convoys and came under fire.”

“The attack is definite in this issue and we are staging investigation in order to know the source of the fire and what had happened exactly, Charbel added.
