A Lebanese army officer died on Monday from gunshot wounds sustained last week during the pursuit of a suspect in South Beirut.
The National News Agency reported that the Lebanese army announced the death of Abbas Joumaa “who died following a grave wound sustained while fulfilling his security duties in the Ghobeiri area.”
The Lebanese army apprehended Hasan Karaki, also known as Aantar, on Saturday for his involvement in the shootout, according to the NNA.
The army announced on Friday that several soldiers, including two officers, were injured when the army patrol came under fire in the area.
