The prominent opposition group, al-Wefaq, said that the 17-year-old Hussein Nemat was martyred late Friday when police fired buckshot to break up a protest in the village of Sadad.

The protest march between the populated villages of Dia and Sahla, near the capital, passed off relatively peacefully.
For its part, the interior ministry claimed Nemat was killed when the police acted in ‘self-defense’ from attackers using Molotov cocktails and iron rods while on patrol.

"A police patrol... was attacked with huge number of Molotov cocktails and iron rods at 11:20 PM on Friday that targeted the lives of policemen in the jeep," it said on its website.
"The policemen defended themselves and dealt with the situation according to the legal procedures decided in such cases.”

Dozens of Bahrainis were martyred since the revolution against Al-Khalifa regime started in February 2011. Hundreds others were injured and jailed for taking part in peaceful protests against the regime.
