Iran, Russia, Syria Meet on UNGA Sidelines

Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi and his Russian counterpart, Sergei Lavrov discussed the Syrian crisis and the continuation of talks between Iran and the Group 5+1.

Salehi, LavrovMeeting in New York on the sidelines of the 67th Annual Session of the UN General Assembly late Friday, the two foreign ministers expressed satisfaction over bilateral ties while emphasizing the need for coordination and further cooperation on the latest regional and international developments.

Referring to the amicable ties between Tehran and Moscow and satisfaction over bilateral cooperation, Foreign Minister Salehi recalled numerous common viewpoints between two countries in different regional and international issues, including Syria, IRNA said.

Russian foreign minister for his part said that his country has always emphasized on the necessity and importance of Iran’s participation in the process of finding a solution to Syria’s crisis.

Lavrov and Salehi emphasized on adopting a framework for peacefully resolving the Syrian crisis while calling for backing the mission of the UN and Arab League special envoy for Syria, Lakhdar Brahimi.

Salehi said both sides agreed on finding a Syrian-Syrian solution to the crisis and rejected any foreign interventions in the country.Moallem, Lavrov

Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Al-Moallem also held talks with Salehi, and discussed with him the latest developments. Al-Moallem hailed Iran’s assistance to the Syrian people in overcoming the crisis.

Al-Moallem also met the Russian Foreign Minister and discussed with him bilateral relations and means of bolstering them giving him a review of the latest developments in Syria.
