The foreign ministers of Islamic countries unanimously adopted a resolution against the recent anti-Islam film posted on the internet and the blasphemous caricatures published in a French magazine that desecrates the Prophet Mohammad (PBUH).

Ministers from the 57-nation Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) said that freedom of expression had to be used with "responsibility."

The declaration called the moves as “sheer acts of incitement to hatred, discrimination and hostility towards Muslims, their peaceful religion Islam and the Holy Prophet (PBUH).”

OIC foreign ministers met on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, where the "Innocence of Muslims" Internet offensive film has been widely condemned.

In a statement, the ministers condemned "intolerance, discrimination, profiling, negative stereotyping, stigmatization, religious hatred and violence against Muslims, as well as denigration of their religion" caused by the release of the film and cartoons of Islam's Prophet Mohammad (PBUH).

"These Islamophobic acts stand in violation of the freedom of religion and belief, guaranteed by international human rights instruments, and have deeply offended" Muslims around the world, the statement added.

The ministers called for "global awareness about the dangerous implications of incitement to religious hatred, discrimination and violence."

The OIC, through its declaration, impresses upon on all governments to take appropriate measures, including legislation against acts that may lead to incitement to hatred, discrimination and violence based on their religion.

It welcomed efforts made by the media to promote inter-religious and intercultural dialogue and encourages them to disseminate the true image of religions and faiths focusing on their basic tenants of peace and tolerance.

It further demanded to criminalize the acts of insult against the Prophet (PBUH) and Islam.

Even though the US-made offensive film has been circulated online since less than one month, waves of protests across the Muslim world have not been stopped till today.
