A Zionist navy approached a Finnish ship attempting to break the sea blockade of Gaza on Saturday.
The ship carrying pro-Palestinian activists has "come under attack" shortly after being approached by Israeli vessels, a spokesperson told AFP on Saturday.
"The Estelle is now under attack -- I have just had a message from them by phone," Victoria Strand, a Stockholm-based spokesperson for the Ship to Gaza Sweden campaign told AFP.
"Some time ago, they said that they had military ships following them, but we don't know exactly what they mean" when they say they were attacked, she said of the vessel which is carrying five parliamentarians and a former Canadian lawmaker.
Amjad al-Shawwa, director of the Gaza network of NGOs, told Ma'an that the Estelle was 38 nautical miles from the shores of Gaza City at 9:30 a.m. Saturday.
Palestinian lawmaker Mustafa Barghouthi said the activists were adamant to continue to sail to Gaza and deliver humanitarian aid despite Zionist threats.
He highlighted that international activists’ ships which try to break the siege on the coastal enclave expose the Israeli occupation’s “racial practices” against the Palestinian people.
The Estelle set sail in June around Europe, and left Naples on Oct. 6 heading for Gaza. European MPs and international activists are on board. The boat's cargo, listed on the flotilla's website, includes cement, wheel chairs, crutches, toys, musical instruments and 300 footballs.
