Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said Tuesday that Tehran could host a national dialogue among various Syrian groups in the near future.
“Representatives of the (Syrian) people, ethnicities, political groups, the opposition, and the government will soon begin a national dialogue in a regional country, and possibly in Tehran," said Abdollahian quoted by the official IRNA news agency.
The deputy foreign minister, who was speaking after meeting his Russian counterpart Mikhail Bogdanov, said “some opposition groups have however rejected this idea, but we are continuing our efforts to persuade them.”
“Tehran and Moscow strongly support the Syrian people and the reform plans of Mr Bashar al-Assad,” Abdollahian said.
