March 14 Blocs Suspend Participation in Dialogue, Parliament Meetings

Apparently, March 14 coalition has dispersed every opportunity for dialogue. It even suspended participation in parliamentary work after the two days of chaos in the country.

After Lebanese Forces Chief Samir Geagea’s stance Monday in which he called for “the instant resignation of the government and the authority reformation in a way that ensures actual security for the Lebanese and real stability for Lebanon,” the Future bloc informed Lebanese President Michel Sleiman that it will not take part in the dialogue meeting or any parliamentary activity.

Geagea announced yesterday his “refusal to sit on any dialogue table” and that his parliament members will act accordingly with any parliament meeting. He also assured that the “peaceful, democratic popular movement” will continue along with the political movement.

In parallel, Suleiman received head of the Future parliamentary bloc MP Fuad Siniora and discussed with him the current developments and ways of preventing foreign crises from affecting the internal situation.

Sleiman further talked about strengthening national unity on various levels, especially during the current situation in Lebanon and the region, and the importance of holding a dialogue meeting as soon as possible. However, Siniora did not agree with the Lebanese President on a close dialogue meeting and informed him that he needed to discuss the issue with the rest of March 14 leaders.

The Lebanese president considered that “the steps the army is taking to preserve national unity, security, and stability reassures that the organizational legitimacy is the guarantee for all the Lebanese,” indicating that “worked in the bases of dialogue and openness would help overcome this tough period”.
