The Russian Foreign Ministry voiced concern over the escalation of the situation in Lebanon in the past couple of days.

In a statement it issued Thursday, the Ministry said it supported “the Lebanese leadership’s steps to avoid an escalation of the situation, and to solve all the issues in a legitimate context and through dialogue.”

The statement further indicated that such a method would preserve Lebanon’s sovereignty and independence, and would remove some sects’ concerns over their benefits.

“We considered that this peaceful and responsible path to surpass the crisis is perfect for Lebanon and other countries in the region, the ministry added in its comments on the problems that erupted in North Lebanon this week.
