The Lebanese PM indicated that “the political campaigns targeting the security apparatuses will have negative outcomes, as no state could be established if its security forces were being targeted in attempt to frustrate them.”
Prime Minister Najib Miqati held a series of meetings at with security officials as well as northern figures at the Grand serial Friday and discussed with them the security situation specifically in Tripoli and measures that should be taken in this regard.
He also met with Army Chief General Jean Qahwaji who acquainted him with the measures the army is taking in Tripoli, and with General Director of the Lebanese Internal Security Forces Ashraf Rifi and and Interior Minister Marwan Charbel.
In addition, PM Miqati discussed in a phone call with President Michel Suleiman, who is currently in Greece, the local developments and agreed that Miqati, in his capacity as deputy head of the Higher Defense Council, calls for a meeting Sunday at the Presidential Palace in Baabda to discuss the situation in Tripoli.
According to the prime minister’s official website, Miqati, reassured that “the Lebanese army and the security forces are exerting utmost efforts to control the situation in the North,” stressing that preserving civil peace “requires the Lebanese leaderships’ cooperation”.

He asked the people in Tripoli to have national responsibility especially at these critical times, and called upon them not to allow “the enemies of Lebanon to achieve their goals”.
