“We discussed the general security situation in Lebanon, especially the developments in Tripoli and the measures taken by the army in the city,” it said in a brief statement.

The council said it kept its decisions secret. The meeting was held in the presence of President Michel Suleiman, Prime Minister Najib Mikati, as well as Defense Minister Fayez Ghosn and Interior Minister Marwan Charbel.

Clashes in Tripoli continued on Sunday but at a lighter pace than that of the night. The final toll of tonight’s dead was one (Ghassan Maarouf) and 3 others were wounded: Mustafa Araour, Khaled Al-Amoudi and Mohammed Dannawi.

The Lebanese army retaliated to the sources of fire in the clashes between the rival neighborhoods of Bab al-Tabbaneh, which supports the Syrian uprising, and Jabal Mohsen, whose residents are staunch supporters of President Assad.

Four rocket-propelled grenades also fell Saturday evening in the area between the rival neighborhoods, breaking the fragile truce that had set in Friday night.
