Moscow on Friday called on all sides of the Syrian conflict and foreign players to abide by the Geneva agreement, a statement of the Foreign Ministry said on Friday.
Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told Lakhdar Brahimi, joint U.N.-Arab League envoy to Syria, by phone “that there should be no alternative to the implementation of the Geneva communiqué which agreed to start an all-Syrian dialogue,” the statement read.
“The agreement reached by world powers during a Geneva meeting in June would help find solutions to the deadlock, stop bloodshed and the use of military force, and launch a detailed dialogue inside Syria on main parameters for fundamental reforms in order to benefit all Syrians,” it added.
Lavrov said both the Syrian sides and key external players ought to strictly abide by the agreement reached at this meeting, according to the ministry, Russia Today news website reported.
Last week, Russia accused the United States of contradicting the Geneva communiqué, as Washington recognized the so-called ‘National Coalition for Syrian Revolutionary and Opposition Forces’ as the sole legitimate representative of the Syrian people.
